Residents are invited to join Stafford's Remembrance Sunday parade and services on 8 and 11 November, honouring those who lost their lives in conflicts around the world.
Stafford will hold its annual Remembrance Sunday commemorations, including a military parade, wreath laying and services at the town's war memorials.
The Remembrance Sunday service begins at 10.50am on 8 November in Victoria Square. A separate Act of Remembrance takes place in Market Square at 10.50am on 11 November.
Personnel from 22 Signal Regiment and Tactical Supply Wing (RAF) will join the parade alongside representatives from The Royal British Legion and local organisations.
The Mayor of Stafford Borough is calling on residents to join him in services to commemorate the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the first World War.
The Mayor, Councillor Mark Winnington, said he was ‘incredibly proud’ of the borough’s military links and encouraged everyone to join him in marking such important dates.
Members of the armed forces will parade through Stafford town centre on Sunday (8th November) as part of the town’s traditional Remembrance commemorations.
The Remembrance Sunday open air service will begin from 10.50am and will include wreath laying at the Borough War Memorial in the town’s Victoria Square. Wreaths will then be laid at the County War Memorial, Victoria Road, before the parade by local servicemen and women.
The parade will pass through the Market Square where a salute will be taken by the Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire alongside Councillor Winnington and civic dignitaries.
Service personnel from 22 Signal Regiment and Tactical Supply Wing (RAF) based in the town, as well as representatives from The Royal British Legion and local organisations, will be part of the parade through the town centre.
The event is held annually on the Sunday nearest to Remembrance Day on 11th November which marks the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the first World War in 1918.
On Wednesday (11 November) prayers and a two-minute silence will be held as part of the Act of Remembrance in the Market Square from 10.50am. The short service will include a trumpeter playing the Last Post and Reveille.
Councillor Winnington said:
“Like many residents across the borough, I am incredibly proud of the strong military presence we have in Stafford. It is wonderful to see service personnel from 22 Signal Regiment and Tactical Supply Wing (RAF) taking part in the parade.
“I encourage residents of all ages to join me in paying tribute to the brave men and women who made tremendous sacrifices in conflicts around the world. Their courage and service helped protect the freedoms we enjoy today, and it is vital that we continue to remember and honour them.”

Why the Signal exists
Real news takes time. Thanks for taking yours.
You've just read a story that took time to get right. No clickbait, no racing to be first, no ads chasing you down the page.
I started The Staffordshire Signal because I got fed up of local news that chased clicks instead of stories. We're independent, not-for-profit, IMPRESS-regulated and owned right here, so we answer to nobody but you.
The honest bit: local news only survives if local people choose it. If we don't, it goes.
