Elaine’s Toy & Gift Appeal is calling on South Staffordshire residents and businesses to donate Christmas presents for children and young people facing financial hardship this festive season.
Elaine’s Toy & Gift Appeal is calling for donations of presents to help children and young people experiencing financial hardship this Christmas.
Last year, the appeal delivered more than 15,000 gifts, reaching over 6,000 children and young people across South Staffordshire.
How to help: Residents and businesses can donate new, unwrapped gifts, organise collections, make financial donations or become collection points. Gifts for older children and teenagers are particularly welcome.

For many children, Christmas morning is a time of excitement, wonder and magic. But for families struggling with the rising cost of everyday essentials, the festive season can bring worry, financial pressure and heartbreaking decisions.
This Christmas, Elaine’s Toy & Gift Appeal is calling on the people and businesses of South Staffordshire to help ensure that children experiencing hardship are not left without a present to open.
With household budgets already stretched by food, heating, housing and other essential costs, many parents face the difficult challenge of making Christmas special while keeping up with everyday bills. Recent data reveals that nearly 60% of parents are actively anxious about funding the holidays. Without community intervention, many vulnerable families across South Staffordshire risk falling into severe debt spirals by turning to high-interest credit cards or Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) schemes just to provide a basic Christmas morning for their children. Even with the government's £100 towards heating bills, this does not come into play till January 2027, which is after the expense of Christmas this year.
Recent national estimates suggest that Christmas can cost families well over £1,000 when presents, food, travel and celebrations are taken into account. For households already struggling financially, even buying a single gift can be difficult.
And while changes to government support and household finances may provide relief for some families in the coming year, they do not remove the immediate pressures of Christmas 2026.
“No parent should have to choose between heating their home and putting a present under the tree.”
Behind every donation is a child who deserves to feel remembered, valued and included at Christmas.
Elaine’s Toy & Gift Appeal aims to bring local communities together to support families facing financial hardship, helping to ease the burden on parents while bringing joy to children who might otherwise go without.

A spokesperson for Elaine’s Toy & Gift Appeal said:
"Christmas should be a magical time for every child, but the reality is that some parents are worrying about how they will afford even the smallest gift.
Imagine being a parent knowing that Christmas morning is approaching and having to choose between paying for heating, putting food on the table or buying your child a present.
No family should have to face that choice alone.
That's why Elaine’s Toy & Gift Appeal is so important. Every toy, every gift and every act of kindness can make a real difference.
We're asking our wonderful South Staffordshire community to come together, support one another and help us make sure that as many children as possible experience the joy of Christmas.
Because we believe one simple thing: Christmas should belong to every child."
LOCAL BUSINESSES URGED TO GET BEHIND THE APPEAL
The appeal is encouraging businesses, schools, community organisations and individuals throughout South Staffordshire and surrounding areas to help make Christmas brighter for local children.
Support can come in many forms:
- Donate a gift: New, unwrapped toys, books, games and presents for babies, children and teenagers.
- Become a collection point: Local businesses can encourage customers and staff to donate.
- Organise a workplace collection: Bring colleagues together to support children in the community.
- Make a financial donation: Help the appeal provide gifts for children who need them.
- Spread the word: Share the appeal on social media and encourage others to get involved.
The appeal particularly welcomes gifts suitable for older children and teenagers, who can sometimes be overlooked in Christmas donation campaigns.

This year, Elaine’s Toy & Gift Appeal is also introducing Gifty, its friendly new mascot, who is helping spread a very special message:
"Christmas Should Belong to Every Child."
Gifty represents the kindness, generosity and community spirit behind the appeal and will help encourage families, businesses and supporters to get involved.
The hope is that Gifty will become a familiar face throughout the community, reminding everyone that even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference.
For someone donating, a toy might be a small purchase. For a young person who might otherwise receive nothing, it could mean the world.
For a parent struggling to make ends meet, knowing their child will have something to open on Christmas morning can bring enormous relief.
Elaine’s Toy & Gift Appeal wants to remind the community that Christmas is about more than presents. It's about kindness, compassion, dignity and making sure families know they are not alone.
This Christmas, South Staffordshire has an opportunity to make a real difference – one gift, one child and one act of kindness at a time.

- delivered +15,000 gifts across South Staffordshire

Why the Signal exists
Real news takes time. Thanks for taking yours.

I started The Staffordshire Signal because I got fed up of local news that chased clicks instead of stories. We're independent, not-for-profit, IMPRESS-regulated and owned right here, so we answer to nobody but you.
The honest bit: local news only survives if local people choose it. If we don't, it goes.
