Historic Staffordshire estate agent marks four years of growth by returning to this side of the city
One of Staffordshire’s longest-established estate agents, Heywoods, will open a new office at 422 Sandon Road, Meir Heath, on Monday 2 November 2026. The new branch is just 200 yards from where Managing Director Alistair Trippett grew up.
The opening comes almost four years to the day since Alistair bought Heywoods out of administration in 2022. Since then, the team has grown from 12 to 23 people. Its Google rating has risen from 3.7 (from 120 reviews) to 4.6 (from 661 reviews), and the business now wins much of its work through referrals and recommendations.
Alistair Trippett, Managing Director of Heywoods, said: "It is almost four years to the day since I bought Heywoods out of administration, I'm incredibly proud of what we've achieved as a business and as a team. To mark that anniversary by expanding into the place where I spent much of my childhood is the icing on the cake, and I can't wait to make an impact."
Founded in 1881, Heywoods once had eight offices across the area, including branches in Stone, Longton and Leek. The Meir Heath office brings the business back to this side of the city, alongside its head office in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Heywoods chose the Sandon Road building for its prominent position, passing trade and plenty of parking, which make it easy for clients, colleagues and tradespeople to visit. The building has been carefully modernised, and the business hopes it will become a familiar landmark in the community. The office is expected to create around four new jobs over time.
The Meir Heath team knows the area well. Senior Sales Valuer Jade Skelton has more than eighteen years in the industry locally, including five with Heywoods, and previously worked in Longton. Sales Negotiator Luke Webster joined earlier this year and is known for his excellent customer care. Lettings Account Manager Sian Tomlinson lives locally with her family. Viewings Representative Margaret Tinsley, who previously worked for an estate agent in Longton, is renovating her own home in Meir Heath.
The numbers show how far the business has come. Across Stoke-on-Trent's ST postcodes, Heywoods achieves an average of 98% of the initial asking price and agrees sales 19 days faster than the area average. It has also agreed sales on 82% of the homes it has listed, compared with an average of 75% for other agents in the area. In its home district of Newcastle-under-Lyme (ST5), Heywoods is ranked number one for new instructions and sales agreed for the year.
Alistair added: "The last four years have had their ups and downs, and the market hasn't always been in our favour, but we continue to outperform it. That's not down to anything special. It's the result of a clear vision, hard work, commitment and being genuine people."
Giving back is central to the Heywoods identity. This year alone, the business is close to contributing £30,000 to local causes, events and charities, and it plans to extend that support to Meir Heath and the surrounding area.
"When we can, we will always give back," said Alistair. "We're a business first, and we have to make sure our team and their families are looked after. But wherever we can, we will support, promote and invest in the community around us, and Meir Heath will be no different."
Heywoods Meir Heath offers sales, lettings, property management, and land and new homes, with access to auction and financial services through trusted partners. The office opens Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm, and on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm.
