Two of Britain's best-known food reviewers have heaped praise on an independent Uttoxeter restaurant after treating 40 lucky followers to Sunday lunch.

YouTube influencers Gary Eats and Danny vs Food, who have almost one million subscribers between them, visited Lowe's on Carter Street for a special event which saw Gary personally foot the bill for 40 competition winners to enjoy a three-course meal.
Gary, whose YouTube channel has attracted 541,000 subscribers since launching in 2023, travels across the UK and around the world reviewing restaurants, cafés and takeaways.
The former hospitality professional, who spent 35 years working in the industry, was joined by fellow food influencer Danny vs Food, with whom he also runs the Danny & Gary YouTube channel.
Lowes on Carter Street is an independent restaurant and wine bar rooted in its community. It holds almost 600 five-star Google reviews with a perfect 5.0 rating and was opened by owner and chef George Lowe and his wife Jemma, in 2023.
Since then, Lowes has expanded adding a bar and increasing its covers. It was named in the Top 100 Restaurants in the UK for 2025, by OpenTable – placing it in the top 0.2% nationwide based on analysis of more than 780,000 diner reviews. It is the only restaurant in Staffordshire to make the list. In March, they were also named as one of the: ‘Top 100 Brunch and Lunch Restaurants in the UK,’ for 2026.

George who was named as the 2026 Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the University of Staffordshire Business Awards last month said:
“As self-confessed foodies we love watching Gary and Danny’s channels and to have the opportunity to host them was fantastic. The feedback we got was great and credit to our team. We strive to provide our guests with amazing food, service and experience and I hope they could see that. We can’t wait to watch Gary’s You Tube review when it goes live in a few weeks’ time!”
Gary said:
“I can honestly say, the food and service was absolutely superb and is credit to George and the team at Lowes. He absolutely has the talent yet no ego at all which is refreshing. It was borderline Michelin star – it was that good but you’ll have to watch the video to see the full review.”
He added:
“What I will say though is that if we want restaurants like Lowes to stay open the Government has to do something to support hospitality. Everything is going up in price, except turnover and it’s becoming increasingly difficult for restaurants to stay open. Talk is cheap, the Government needs to take action. Cutting VAT for hospitality by 10% would be an absolute lifeline for restaurants like Lowes.”
