Cheddleton councillor Dylan Pascall has resigned from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council after taking a full-time job in York, triggering a by-election.

What’s new: Cheddleton councillor Dylan Pascall has resigned from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, triggering a by-election in the ward.
Why it matters: Pascall was elected in 2023 at the age of 18 and represented Cheddleton, Wetley Rocks, Consall and Basford Green.
What’s next: A by-election will now be held to elect a new district councillor for the Cheddleton ward.
The Staffordshire Moorlands Labour Party announces that our Councillor for Cheddleton on Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Dylan Pascall, has resigned his seat, and a by-election has been called for the ward.
Dylan said on his resignation:
“I have today resigned as the Councillor for Cheddleton on Staffordshire Moorlands District Council. I want to thank residents across the ward for their support and kindness both at the last election and throughout my term.
I am stepping down as I have taken full-time employment in York and will be permanently moving there to take up the job. This is a difficult decision but no longer regularly being in the Moorlands, I feel unable to continue in the role.
It has been an absolute honour to represent the people of Cheddleton, Wetley Rocks, Consall and Basford Green over the last three years and this community, in which I grew up, will always mean a lot to me.”
Dylan was elected in 2023 at the age of 18 to represent the ward and may well have been the youngest councillor elected to the district in its history. As well as representing residents within the council, he also held the role of Staffordshire Moorlands Member Development Champion, in which he ensured that council members had access to the training they needed to effectively carry out their various roles across the council on a cross-party basis.
The Labour leader of SMDC, Mike Gledhill, said:
“Dylan has been a valued and loved member of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council. The Moorlands’ loss is York’s gain and I’m thrilled that the Moorlands produces young people as bright, kind and enthusiastic as Dylan. We are proud, too, that young people feel able to and do get involved in local politics in the Moorlands and hope Dylan has set an
example to other young people in the district. He will be missed around the whole of the Chamber and around Moorlands House. On behalf of the Labour Group, I wish him all the success in the world for the future.”
Over the years, Dylan has supported multiple groups and projects within Cheddleton, including most recently Cheddleton Flint Mill.
