A crazy golf course that sat unused for a decade is now home to Stoke-on-Trent’s newest padel courts.

THE SIGNAL BRIEF

What’s new: Ace Padel has opened its fifth club at Fenton Manor Sports Complex, bringing new padel courts to land previously occupied by an unused crazy golf course.

By the numbers: The opening takes Ace Padel to 20 courts across five sites and is creating 13 part-time jobs in Stoke-on-Trent.

What’s next: New clubs in Coventry, Sefton and Morpeth are due to open early next year, with the Stoke-born company aiming to operate 50 courts by the end of 2027.

Ace Padel has officially opened its newest club at Fenton Manor Sports Complex, adding to a growing network of padel courts across Stoke-on-Trent.

Co-founder Jamie Reynolds and the Deputy Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Councillor Chris Robinson, opened the club on Saturday 17 October. The Staffordshire Signal was there for the launch.

The club sits on land that was once the sports centre’s crazy golf course, which had been out of use for ten years. Stoke-on-Trent City Council secured planning permission in May for a mix of covered and open air courts, along with a clubhouse housed in a converted shipping container.

A fifth site for a Stoke-born business

Fenton Manor is Ace Padel’s fifth site, and it takes the company to 20 courts. It joins the clubs in Cobridge and Milton, while further afield the business runs sites in Lytham St Annes and Culcheth.

The expansion is backed by a £500,000 loan from the Midlands Engine Investment Fund II, managed by Frontier Development Capital. The Fenton club is creating 13 part-time jobs, adding to a workforce of more than 70.

Coventry, Sefton and Morpeth are due to open early next year, and Ace Padel aims to reach 50 courts by the end of 2027.

Discounts for Active Stoke members

Active Stoke members can book off-peak sessions at Fenton Manor for £24 an hour, down from £28, between 7am and 3pm.

What is padel?

Padel combines elements of tennis and squash. It’s usually played in doubles, on a court roughly a third the size of a tennis court, with the walls in play. The Lawn Tennis Association expects the number of players in Britain to reach 400,000 by the end of 2026.
