Best job ever? Tamworth housebuilder on hunt for ‘archi-tot’ to design future homes

A Tamworth housebuilder has created an exciting new job role and is recruiting for an ‘archi-tot of the future’.

Redrow Midlands, which is currently building at the Amington Garden Village developments, is calling on the town’s youngsters to design a house suitable for 2126 – some 100 years from now.

Whether it’s wallpaper that changes depending on your mood, a fridge that restocks automatically or a bathroom that cleans itself, the design must suit the needs of ultra-modern family life while being energy efficient and built sustainably.

The role is open to 4-to-16-year-olds across the region, who will need to submit their ‘house of the future’ design to BarrattRedrow@wpragency.co.uk.

The winning archi-tot will not only receive a £100 prize but also see their design placed into a time capsule and buried in the ground at Amington Garden Village, ready to be unearthed in a century’s time.

Imaginative youngsters across the region have until midnight on Friday 16th October to submit their entries. The winner will join other successful archi-tots chosen by Redrow regions across the UK, with one overall champion to be announced later this year.

Joanne Watson, Sales Director for Redrow Midlands, said:

“We’re so excited to get a glimpse into the future of housebuilding by calling on Tamworth’s most creative young talent to imagine what a home will look like in 100 years.

“From convertible roofs for those sweltering summer nights to robot gardeners who mow the lawn, we’re searching for the most adventurous and ambitious designers for this role.

“Here at Redrow Midlands, we’re committed to bringing young people into the construction sector and are recognised by the industry for our training excellence and apprenticeship programme.

“What better way to celebrate the talent of local youngsters and showcase the wonderful creative abilities of the next generation? Who knows, the winner could become an apprentice with us in the future, where they might find themselves building new homes.”

The Amington Garden Village developments offer a choice of two, three and four-bedroom properties. These sought-after homes are part of Redrow’s award-winning Heritage Collection and are located just three miles from Tamworth’s town centre. The development provides a rural setting with excellent commuter links, including easy reach of the A5, M42 and M6 Toll.
