Councillor Joan Bell, Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, said:

"Many residents will attend services across Stoke-on-Trent this weekend as communities gather to remember those who served and those who never returned.

"This year also marks the 90th anniversary of the first flight of the Spitfire. Designed by Reginald Mitchell, the aircraft became a symbol of courage, service and sacrifice during the Second World War.

"Remembrance Sunday gives us an opportunity to pay our respects to those who gave their lives in service of their country and to reflect on the lasting impact of conflict on individuals, families and communities.

"It’s important that we continue to remember those who served, reflect on the freedoms their sacrifice secured and ensure their legacy is never forgotten."
