Waste and recycling vehicles across Staffordshire Moorlands are displaying poppies in support of the Royal British Legion's annual Poppy Appeal, honouring serving personnel, veterans and their families.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and Alliance Environmental Services have decorated their waste and recycling fleet with poppies for this year's remembrance commemorations.
The initiative supports the Royal British Legion's annual appeal, which raises funds for serving personnel, veterans and their families.
The Council has received a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award, the only local authority in the West Midlands to receive silver in this year's awards.

Waste and recycling vehicles in the Staffordshire Moorlands are once again wearing poppies with pride during this year’s annual season of remembrance in honour of the Armed Forces community.
The Royal British Legion, the UK’s biggest armed forces charity, runs the annual poppy appeal campaign to raise the funds it needs to support service men, women and their families whenever and wherever they need it.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and its waste collection partner Alliance Environmental Services are supporting the appeal, and the people it helps, as they do every year.
Chairman of the Staffordshire Moorlands, Councillor Linda Malyon, said:
“Here in the Moorlands we recognise and value everyone who serves, or has served, and wearing poppies ourselves, and displaying them on our waste collection fleet, is a visible way of showing our support.
“I’m delighted that we are taking part in the Royal British Legion’s poppy campaign again this year. We know it means a lot to the men and women that make such sacrifices in the interests of us all and we are proud to play our part in giving something back to them and their families.”
There are a number of services taking place across the Moorlands on Remembrance Sunday 8 November.
The Council has pledged its ongoing commitment to our service personnel by signing the Armed Forces Covenant – a promise made by the nation to ensure that those who serve, or have served, and their families are treated fairly.
We have recently been awarded the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award for our sustained commitment to supporting the armed forces community.
The Award celebrates employers who are actively creating supportive environments of reservists, veterans, the cadet movement and military families.
The Council was the only local authority in the West Midlands to receive a silver in this year’s awards.
The Royal British Legion has around 180,000 members who play a vital role in supporting the Armed Forces community and their families through fundraising, offering companionship, and organising remembrance events.
There’s more information about the Royal British Legion, and becoming a member, on their website.
Councillor Malyon added:
“Members do such sterling work and, like all those who volunteer, must find it such a rewarding experience.
“Local branches need members to keep them going and that’s certainly the case here in the Moorlands. So if you feel you could offer some time to help support the RBL, please take a look at their website and consider getting involved.”

Why the Signal exists
Real news takes time. Thanks for taking yours.
You've just read a story that took time to get right. No clickbait, no racing to be first, no ads chasing you down the page.
I started The Staffordshire Signal because I got fed up of local news that chased clicks instead of stories. We're independent, not-for-profit, IMPRESS-regulated and owned right here, so we answer to nobody but you.
The honest bit: local news only survives if local people choose it. If we don't, it goes.
