Michelin has utilised its tyres and technology to get the maximum sustainability and safety performance from a new wave of EV additions to its fleet.
As part of the company’s transition from diesel vehicles to 100% electric energy by
2030, Michelin’s Connected Solutions Division (CXS), headquartered at Keele
University Science Park, has taken delivery of 19 new Ford Transit EV vans.
Each vehicle has been fitted with MICHELIN Connected Fleet, which provides
comprehensive telematics data for fleet vehicles, as well as tyres from the
company’s high performance Agilis range.
Andrew French, B2B Sales Director at Michelin UK & Ireland, said:
“The combination of Michelin technology and tyres means the new vehicles are capable of even greater performance in terms of environment, safety and cost.
“MICHELIN Connected Fleet allows us to improve road safety and driving style through measurement of harsh braking and acceleration, reducing accidents and helping the fleet perform to the highest levels of productivity.
“This is complemented with tyres from the MICHELIN Agilis range, which deliver reduced fuel consumption, improved range and industry-leading safety features.”
The latest arrivals mean approximately two-thirds of Michelin’s CXS’s 56-strong
operational fleet is now electric, providing an estimated saving of 79.5 tonnes of CO2 annually.
The new vehicles will be used by the CXS team to support their work delivering fleet management and safety solutions to Michelin customers across the UK and Ireland.
Michelin held a training day at its premises in Stoke-on-Trent to familiarise drivers with the new vans, onboard technology, and tips on maximising their range through refinements to driving technique.
The new EVs mark the second stage of investment from Michelin, following an initial wave of vehicles in 2024.
With 36 of the operational fleet’s 56 vehicles now EVs, Michelin plans to replace
more of its diesel vans during the next year as it moves to 100% electric energy over the next four years.
