Several homes have sustained serious fire damage after a fast moving blaze spread from a field through gardens and properties in Sandyford, Goldenhill.

We attended Sandford, Goldenhill at around 6.30pm, where flames had spread through several properties and along Sandyford Park, which backs onto nearby homes.

Residents told us the fire originated in the field before spreading faster than they were able to contain it.

Joshua was among those who tried to tackle the fire during its early stages.

"It started on the grass, within 3-4 minutes I rang the fire brigade, 4 minutes later it had engulfed the back of the gardens then 10 minutes later, explosions"

Eight fire appliances attended the incident and police cordoned off surrounding streets as crews tackled the blaze.

The fire took hold of houses on Sandy Road and Maureen Avenue.

Several houses have sustained serious fire damage, although the exact number is yet to be confirmed. Even more properties have lost gardens and sheds to the fire.

This morning, Nicola Johnson contacted The Staffordshire Signal with photographs showing the devastation left behind by yesterday’s fire, revealing the extent of the damage to homes, gardens and outbuildings in the area.

For those standing nearby and watching their homes and possessions being affected, it was an incredibly difficult scene. We cannot express how horrible it was seeing people lose all their belongings, and we really do send our sympathies.

Community rallies around residents affected by Sandyford fire

As the emergency response continued, support from the local community was strong.

Residents in neighbouring streets opened their doors to people who had been evacuated from their homes.

Civil Contingency Teams set up a community hub at Goldenhill Community Centre to provide help to those affected. Food and drinks were made available, alongside a generous selection of pet food donated by Vets for Pets.

Officials also gathered at the centre to advise residents about what the next steps would be.

Arfan Mohammed from Sizzlers Fast Food, Kidsgrove & Abbey Hulton, attended with food for those affected by the fire.

Speaking to residents, Arfan said:

"You are not alone"

He added:

"Sizzlers Kidsgrove is only around the corner, and when our community needs us we will be there"

Arfan has also pledged to donate £1 from every order at Sizzlers Kidsgrove, starting today, to help residents affected by the fire.

In a statement, he also said he will be arranging a charity football match to raise further funds.

Multiple large fires across Staffordshire in the same 24 hours

The Sandyford fire came during an exceptionally busy 24 hour period for fire crews across Staffordshire, with major incidents also reported around Marquis Drive in Cannock Chase, Park Hall, Prince Avenue in Tamworth and Mount Pleasant in Stoke on Trent.

Marquis Drive, Cannock Chase

Homes and a nearby campsite were evacuated after a significant fire spread across an area measuring around 80 metres by 80 metres.

Six crews attended the incident.

Park Hall

Park Hall has unfortunately been affected by several fires this summer, but this latest incident was more severe than the previous fire.

It began in a small area before the wind helped the flames spread through the already parched and burnt ground.

The fire could be seen for miles, with residents in Draycott needing to close their windows to keep smoke out of their homes.

Prince Avenue, Tamworth

Fire crews were called to Prince Avenue where six gardens, sheds and hedgerows were on fire.

Thankfully, the blaze was extinguished before it could reach the houses.

Mount Pleasant, Stoke on Trent

Fences, gardens and garages were affected by another large fire in Mount Pleasant, which is understood to have spread from a nearby grass area close to the A50.

Crews were already attending a fire in trees near the A50, in the direction of Stanley Matthews Way, at around 5.30pm on Wednesday 12 August.

Resources were split across both locations and the A50 remained closed for a number of hours while the Fire Service battled the fires.

Please do not speculate about the causes

There is currently no confirmed source for the cause of these fires and people are being asked not to speculate.

The ground is extremely dry following several weeks of record breaking heat and no rainfall. Fires can start easily.

While there have been confirmed arson attacks in Staffordshire this summer, these particular fires could have been accidental.
