Adult learning move to improve facilities and access to employment support

Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Adult and Community Learning (ACL) service is moving to a new home in Stoke, bringing education, skills and employment support together in one location.

The service will be based at Swann House on Boothen Road and offers learning opportunities for Stoke-on-Trent residents aged 19 and over.

The move will give learners access to improved facilities and a modern learning environment, while giving the service greater flexibility to grow and develop in response to demand.

Adult and Community Learning will also be based alongside the council’s employment and skills teams, allowing residents to access education, careers advice and support into work from one location.

Bringing the services together will provide more joined-up support for people looking to gain new skills, progress their careers or move into employment.

The move supports the council’s wider ambitions to improve opportunities for residents, develop skills across the city and ensure high-quality learning remains accessible to everyone.

Councillor Sarah Jane Colclough, cabinet member for children’s services at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said:

“The work our Adult and Community Learning team do is so important, as they provide opportunities for many residents and support them with their ambitions.

“Whether it’s improving job prospects or increasing confidence, the service help so many people in the city. This move to Swann House will ensure more joined up working and improved resources, so this amazing work can continue to prosper and more people can enhance or learn new skills in a supportive environment.”

The ACL team are currently taking places for courses starting from September 2026, including maths and health and wellbeing.
