Local people wanted to join New Vic play written by Oscar Winner

The New Vic Theatre are looking for local people to join their Community Theatre Company for Gladstone Girls – a new play written by Stoke-on-Trent born, Oscar Award winning Rachel Shenton (The Silent Child, All Creatures Great and Small).

 A brand-new play set in the heart of Stoke-on-Trent’s pottery industry, Gladstone Girls is an uplifting, joyful story about one group of women and a factory tradition that they hold dear. In order to authentically portray the lives of pottery workers at Gladstone Pottery during the early 1960s era, the New Vic is looking for adults aged 18+ for both on and off-stage opportunities to represent the many workers who shaped Stoke-on-Trent’s ceramics industry and celebrate the skill, craft and artistry of local working people.

For those interested in acting, there are opportunities to perform as part of an on-stage community company to help establish the working world of Gladstone. While it isn’t necessary to have previous experience of performing, you'd need to be comfortable on stage and up for the challenge.

The New Vic is also interested in hearing from people who have experience in the industry to form an off-stage community company, particularly anyone with skills in slide-on lithography, banding, stippling and hand painting ceramics. As the play is set in the decorating room of Gladstone during the working day, the theatre is keen to find those who are interested in sharing their skills and knowledge with the cast of the production.
