Firefighters were called to a derelict building on Port Street in Middleport after smoke was seen coming from the area.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service received the call at 7.45pm on Monday 3 August.

One fire appliance attended the scene and crews extinguished a small fire in the roof space of the building.

Police appeal after separate deliberate fire

Emergency services had also attended a separate fire at a derelict building on Milvale Street earlier that evening.

Staffordshire Police were called at 5.25pm following reports of a fire inside the building and attended alongside Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The fire was extinguished and nobody was reported injured.

Police have confirmed that the cause of the fire was deemed to be deliberate and an investigation is ongoing.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent one ambulance and a paramedic officer to the scene, although crews were stood down after no patients were found.

"We were called to reports of a building fire on Milvale Street at 5.25pm yesterday (August 3), one ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene. However, on arrival there were no patients found and we were stood down."

Police are appealing for anyone with doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage from the area at the time to contact them.
