West Midlands Interchange delivers £7 million boost to Staffordshire jobs and businesses

West Midlands Interchange has revealed it has delivered more than £7 million in social value across Staffordshire and Wolverhampton, supporting local jobs, businesses, skills and communities.

This month, West Midlands Interchange (WMI) has launched its first Social Value Impact Report (2022–2025), revealing how the project has already delivered more than £7 million in social value across South Staffordshire, Staffordshire and Wolverhampton.

The report highlights how investment linked to one of the UK's largest logistics developments is already creating lasting benefits for local people, businesses and communities.

The £7 million in social value delivered to date comprises:

• £4.9 million supporting local business growth and strengthening the regional economy.
• £2.4 million creating jobs, developing skills and improving employment opportunities.
• £12,000 supporting healthier, stronger and more resilient communities.

Between 2022 and 2025, WMI has:

• Generated 55 full-time equivalent (FTE) local roles, including job opportunities for people facing barriers to employment.
• Delivered more than 690 hours of education sessions in local schools, colleges and universities.
• Provided over 500 weeks of apprenticeships and T-Level placements, helping young people develop skills for future careers.
• Spent £4.81 million with local suppliers, including £2.8 million with local micro, small and medium-sized businesses, helping to keep investment within the regional economy.

The report showcases inspiring local success stories, such as local student Viktoriia, who joined Winvic on a T-Level placement at WMI before securing a permanent role as a Trainee Site Engineer, subsequently winning Student of the Year at the DfE National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards. Her journey highlights the real-world pathways WMI creates, sitting alongside community projects supported through volunteering, grants, and the WMI Community Fund.

James Markby, Managing Partner at Logistics Capital Partners, and William Oddie, Development Director at Oxford Properties Group said:

While the development itself will bring significant long-term investment to the region, it's equally important that local people and businesses benefit today."

As construction continues, WMI’s social impact will grow further, with the development projected to create up to 8,500 jobs over its lifetime while continuing to invest in local businesses, education and community initiatives.
