New Children’s Screen Acting Classes Launch in Stoke-on-Trent This September

New screen acting classes for children and young people aged 6–16 are launching in Stoke-on-Trent on September 27th, offering practical training for film and television.

A new screen acting school for children and young people aged 6–16 is launching in Stoke-on-Trent on September 27th, giving aspiring young actors the opportunity to learn the skills needed to work professionally in film and television.

The classes, held on London Road, Stoke-on-Trent, will be managed by professional actor Andrew Ellis, known for his work in This Is England, The Walk-In and Supertato, and delivered locally by Stoke actor, award-winning writer and filmmaker Tori Hughes, whose credits include The Aftermath and The Cycle.

The new classes will focus specifically on acting for the camera, giving young people practical experience and skills that they can take into auditions and professional work.

Students will learn how to:

• Act naturally and confidently for camera
• Create believable characters for screen
• Prepare and record professional-standard self-tapes
• Understand camera technique and continuity
• Improvise and think creatively
• Develop confidence and performance skills
• Understand what is expected during film and television auditions

The classes are designed to be both educational and fun, providing a creative environment where young people can meet others with similar interests while developing their confidence and acting ability.

Andrew Ellis, founder and manager of the classes, said:

“I have been acting for 20 years, starting my career in the Midlands in Nottingham. To me, giving back to the youth is important. There just isn't enough drama in schools anymore and for me that's the place you meet like-minded creative people and realise that it's OK to be a bit silly and basically be a kid for a bit.”

Andrew has spent two decades working across film, television and theatre and is passionate about helping the next generation of performers understand the realities of working in the industry.

The classes will be delivered by Tori Hughes, a Stoke-on-Trent actor, filmmaker and award-winning writer, bringing local industry experience and knowledge directly to young performers in the area.

The launch marks the beginning of a new opportunity for young people across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire who are interested in pursuing acting, filmmaking or simply developing their confidence through performance.

The first classes take place on September 27th on London Road, Stoke-on-Trent.

Places are available for children and young people aged 6–16.
