With autumn in full swing, a care home in Tamworth is inviting the local community to come together for a morning of fun, games, and friendly competition to celebrate the simple joys of traditional games.
What’s happening: Arkall Manor care home in Tamworth is hosting a community board games morning featuring Jenga, Connect 4, Dominoes and Race to Base.
When and where: Wednesday 14 October 2026, from 10.30am to 12pm, at Arkall Manor on Ashby Road, Tamworth.
Why it matters: The event is part of Care UK's nationwide Bored Games campaign, encouraging people of different generations to connect through traditional games.

On Wednesday 14th October from 10.30am-12pm, Care UK’s Arkall Manor, on Ashby Road, will open its doors to families, friends and neighbours for its board game café to reignite the magic of games nights this autumn.
Throughout the event, those attending can take part in a host of games, including Jenga, Connect 4, Dominoes and Race to Base.
To keep energy levels high, residents and guests will be able to enjoy fresh cake, tea and coffee, specially prepared by the home’s head chef.
The event is part of Care UK’s ‘Bored Games’ initiative – a nationwide campaign intended to revive the magic of family and community games nights. At a time when social media and online gaming have transformed how people spend their leisure time, the initiative is celebrating the simple joys of spending time together playing traditional board games and the memories they can create.
From community events to intergenerational activities, care homes across the UK will celebrate togetherness and reconnect residents with traditional games that shaped their younger years.
Lindsay Barclay, Lifestyle Lead at Arkall Manor, said:
“We are delighted to be inviting the local community to join us for our gaming event and share in an afternoon of fun, laughter and friendly competition.
“Here at Arkall Manor, we’re proud to be part of the Tamworth community, and events like this are a fantastic way of bringing people together of all ages. Traditional board games have a wonderful way of sparking conversations and bringing back treasured memories, and we’re looking forward to seeing residents share stories from games nights they enjoyed when they were younger.
“Whether you’re a board game enthusiast or simply looking for a fun morning out, we’d love for as many people to join us as possible. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through our doors and see who will come out on top!”

Why the Signal exists
Real news takes time. Thanks for taking yours.
You've just read a story that took time to get right. No clickbait, no racing to be first, no ads chasing you down the page.
I started The Staffordshire Signal because I got fed up of local news that chased clicks instead of stories. We're independent, not-for-profit, IMPRESS-regulated and owned right here, so we answer to nobody but you.
The honest bit: local news only survives if local people choose it. If we don't, it goes.
