Families Explore Caudwell Children’s Keele Centre at Inclusive Open Day

The Staffordshire Signal joined Caudwell Children at its Keele headquarters for its 2026 Family Fun Day, meeting young people from the Shaping Futures Programme and taking a tour of the award winning centre.

Families Explore Caudwell Children’s Keele Centre at Inclusive Open Day

Caudwell Children opened the doors of its award winning International Children’s Centre at Keele on Friday 14 August, welcoming families, supporters and guests for a free Family Fun Day celebrating inclusion and the charity’s work with disabled and neurodivergent children and young people.

The Staffordshire Signal attended the event as invited press, we were given a tour of the centre and experienced the wider open day.

We were also joined by local mayors, councillors and the High Sheriff of Staffordshire, Pritpal Singh Nagi MBE DL, who attended the event to show their support for Caudwell Children and the work the charity is doing to support children, young people and families.

Based on Innovation Way in Newcastle under Lyme, the centre became a busy and welcoming space for the day, with family activities, entertainment, food and opportunities for visitors to learn more about the support Caudwell Children provides.

A look inside the Caudwell International Children’s Centre

We were taken on a tour of the Caudwell International Children’s Centre, giving us an opportunity to see the building and learn more about the services delivered from the Keele headquarters.

Visitors attending the open day were also able to explore the centre, meet members of staff and the in house clinical team, and find out more about the support available to children, young people and their families.

The day brought together families, supporters and members of the Caudwell Children team, while giving visitors an opportunity to see more of the work taking place from the Staffordshire based centre.

Among those available to speak during the day were members of the charity’s clinical and family support teams, beneficiaries, supporters and the Mayor of Newcastle under Lyme, Councillor Christopher Bailey.

Family activities throughout the day

Alongside the opportunity to learn more about the charity, the Family Fun Day included a range of activities and attractions.

Visitors could enjoy face painting, animal meet and greets and craft stalls, creating a relaxed family event around the more informative elements of the open day.

The event was open to all families and ran until 3pm.

A quieter start to the 2026 event

Caudwell Children also introduced a quiet hour between 10am and 11am.

The quieter session was created for visitors who might find the usual sights, sounds and pace of the Family Fun Day overwhelming.

Numbers during the quiet hour were limited to help create a calmer environment, with visitors able to remain at the event after the main open day began at 11am.

The addition reflected the wider focus of the day, offering families different ways to experience the event while learning more about the support and services available through Caudwell Children.
