Water-saving challenge raises £8,000 for North Staffs Mind
North Staffs Mind is to receive a donation of £8,000 from Severn Trent Water thanks to the company’s water-saving campaign throughout June.
Severn Trent challenged customers to save an average of 150 million litres of water per day and raise £1 million for local charities after experiencing the driest May in 100 years which, combined with so many people being at home due to the coronavirus, saw the highest demand for water Severn Trent had ever seen.
With a little help from the recent wetter and cooler weather, demand dropped from a high of 2.2 billion litres a day. Staffordshire customers managed to cut down their water use by 7.52%.
Kate Boundy, Interim Chief Executive of North Staffs Mind said, “We would like to say a huge thank you to Severn Trent and their customers for raising such an amazing amount for us at North Staffs Mind through this water saving initiative.
“The coronavirus pandemic continues to have a severe impact on the mental health of local people and our services are needed now more than ever. This is a really significant donation that will allow us to reach out to even more people to provide support during these challenging times.”
Liv Garfield, Severn Trent CEO said: “The really great news is that, together, everyone’s done enough to make sure our lovely local charities will get hundreds of thousands of pounds in donations to help them with the fantastic work they’re doing in the communities we serve.
“It’s important we all carry on though – we know the cooler weather in June played a big part in how much water was used but, with temperatures starting to heat up again, it’s still really important we carry on doing our bit by using less water.”
Other local Minds, as well as Barnardo’s, Macmillan Cancer Support, Crisis, and Age UK will all receive a share of the donation.
