The brand new Coronavirus tracing app could lead to entire areas being put on lockdown even after lockdown restrictions are eased.
Matt Hancock revealed yesterday that stricter social distancing measures may have to be enforced in specific areas in the future as part of the NHS ‘test and trace’ mechanic for continuing to stop the spread of Coronavirus.
The PM also announced that the tracking system will go live on either Thursday or Friday.
It will involve a huge workforce of over 25,000 contact tracers who will help to identify new cases of the virus.
If a particular town or area is found to be hotspot for Coronavirus, that area could be placed on a strict lockdown.
“We will have local lockdowns in future where there are flare-ups,” he said at the Tuesday Coronavirus briefing.
