About Me

Presenter of The new Glory Boys new Sunday night show, Playing, Music for the forgotten generation of Mod, Individualist, Popcorn, Freakbeat, Go go , Bubblegum, revival, Blues, House and 6 T's garage ....I use the name 'glory Boy'as an AKA(also known as)which i took for the album of the same name from 1979 Secret Affair. The name Glory Boy was used as another term for a Mod or Modernist, individualist etc. A Mod was a label really where as a Glory Boy was a statement...especially of our times , hence the term for all glory boys and Mods 'clean living under difficult circumstances', meaning that you can be who you want to be in this world and it doesnt matter which class you come from! you are as good as the next man - for the mods it was about being one step ahead of the next man especially where clothes and music were seen and heard, any way here's a bit about me ....

I first got into to the Mod scene in 1979, probably afer seeing secret affair perform time for action on TOTP's along with the film release of Quadrophenia i was hooked. i wasn't like most mods at school, i was more into the real mod image and not into the ska scene which rode the back of the mod revival at the same time. i was listening to the chords, squire, teenbeats, purple hearts and secret affair along with bands that wern't so mainstream like Beggar, the crooks etc.

I used to dress in the way i could afford with the casual mod look being levi 501's red tab, clarks desert boots, fred perry and a harrington jacket, but when i dressed up for the occassion it would be a smart brown suit with 5 inch side vents, 3 buttons, 15inch bottoms on the trousers and finished of with a ben sherman pink button down shirt and a small width dark red tie. other occasions i could be seen wearing a red, blue and grey stripped boating blazer with white levi's and jam shoes - all along wearing my M51 us army issue mod parka or rain mac for the finished look.
I got my first scooter when i was still at school and though this didnt go down to well with the school i stuck it out all the same - it was a lambretta 150 totally not legal until i was 16 then it was a road legal vespa 50 special kitted up and full of mod bling - racks, crash bars, mirrors, lamps, in fact anything that shone was bolted on.

I attended a few rallies on the scooter scene and a few northern soul/motown events with the east anglian soul club but my true love was always the music and seeing a live band was the best thing ever - my favourite gigs was seeing the chords at Ipswich corn exchange and the teenbeats at st ives youth club which followed with a huge battle against the local rockers!

Times moved on and the Mod scene was slated by the music press and seemed to die out to most but underground the movement was still strong and the mid eigthies saw a new breed of bands such as the gents and the prisoners.

The movement held its own and continues to be as strong as ever especially 2010 and 2011 which has seen bands reforming and a possible Mod revival revival happening this coming year. Hopefully i can give you an insight to what got me hooked and has stayed with me for over 30 years and might tempt you listemers to dig the new breed of our forgotten generation.

All the music i play cuts across the genree from deep rooted southern usa blues to The ripping chords of the revival bands - and everything inbetween!

Please enjoy my shows , if you have any requests, stories, tales or would like to advertise your events let me know and i'll spin you a line. if you are interested in sponsoring the show please contact the station and ask for Rob who will sort you out a great package.

Away from the radio i'm a keen football supporter and i am a season ticket holder at Stoke City Football Club, who i have followed all my life.

I Currently live away from the potteries but have an interest in the potteries future and well being, in fact i love Stoke on Trent and Newcastle under Lyme to the point where i'm very pro stoke and wont have a bad word said against it. I hope to return to the potteries again to live.

I have a partner Jude, and two girls, Danielle and Stephanie whom i love dearly.

In my spare time i go scootering on one of my two Lambretta scooters. I currently own a 1960 Lambretta series two Mod style and a Lambretta GP 225 Tsi which is a bit tasty. I attend a few events, some rallies and local stuff. A scooter which i sold recently was used in the video for ''Head the ball' England world cup song 2010 with Ian Dyer and scooters throughout the potteries which was filmed in Longton.

All the best
