Ryan Shawcross called up for England

04 Oct 2012
Stoke City Captain Ryan Shawcross has been announced in Roy Hodgson's latest England squad to face San Marino and Poland in the World Cup qualifiers.

Ryan has had one previous call up under Fabio Capello in 2010 will be hoping to don an England shirt and confirm his place as a replacement for John Terry who recently announced his retirement from international football.

Former Stoke City captain Denis Smith said
"From Roy Hodgson's point, it's a no brainer to pick him"
"Ryan's getting to the right age and I'm not surprised he's been selected"
"He's had no problems in handling the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City so far this season." "He's reading the game better this season than I've seen him previously and that comes with experience."
"He's the ideal age for the next world cup and there's no reason why he shouldn't be playing in it."
