Vale look to record back to back home wins in a week as they entertain Wycombe Wanderers; the visitors are lead by former Vale legend – Gareth Ainsworth. Luckily for Vale, the former winger is on the bench and not in the starting line up. Port Vale kick off with Wycombe shooting towards the home fans in the Bycars end, Vale have been forced to make two changes from Mondays win against Oxford, Shuker returns and Murphy makes his first start for Morsy (suspended) and Burge (injured). Top scorer in the league; Tom Pope gets a header in the first minute, it goes wide. Murphy makes an impact, but it’s on a Wycombe player in the 3rd minute and they get a free kick from 30 yards, Scowen blast it wide.  Great run by Vincent on 7 minutes forces a great save by Bull, Vale starting a lot brighter than on Monday.  Dean Morgan unleashes a great shot in the 15th minute; Chris Neal manages gets down and saves it. Joel Grant tries to curl one in a minute later and Neal saves again. Penalty for Wycombe on 17 minutes, as McCombe is judged to have brought down Andrade; Joel Grant put it to the keeper’s right, 0-1 to Wycombe (19 minutes).

Ashley Vincent has a great chance on 25 minutes to get Vale level, but can’t get it past the keeper. Taylor whips a great cross in and Pope heads it and Vale get a corner on 31 minutes. The resulting play sees Myrie Williams get a free kick and Shuker takes, straight on to a Wycombe head. Wycombe get a corner n 37 minutes Scowen takes and it goes straight into the hands of Chris Neal. Jo Kuffour and Jon McCombe both go into the book on 38 minutes, the vale fans are not happy as they think McCombe was in the right. Leon Johnson goes down in his own area on 42 minutes; the fans seem to think he dived. Stuart Lewis shoots over for the visitors 2 minutes later, the Vale fans still vocal about the ref’s decision making. The fourth official gives 2 more minutes on 45 just as Jo Kuffour receives his marching orders for a late challenge on Chris Neal (who could win an Oscar for his performance after the foul), his second bookable offence, only 7 minutes after his first.

At half time it’s: Port Vale 0, Wycombe Wanderers 1.

Second half gets underway with Wycombe and it only takes a minute before two of their players are rolling round on the floor after kicking each other. A Vale free kick on 47 minutes from Shuker gets Vale a corner. Spring comes on for Wycombe replacing Andrade just before Shuker puts the corner over. Joel grants curling shot on 50 minutes tests Neal, who pulls off a great save to give Wycombe a corner. After good work from Dodds, a Pope header lands for Dodds who shoots and Vale get a corner after Lewis clears off the line , the resulting play sees rob Taylor have a shot, just wide. Williamson is brought on for Darren Murphy on 54 minutes to change it around a bit for Vale. Charles Dunne gets in the book on 55 minutes for the visitors. Duffy puts the ball over for Vale after Vale try to attack on 56 minutes. They get a corner a couple of minutes after, Clayton McDonald can’t keep his header down though. Pope puts Williamson through on 59 minutes and he makes no mistake slotting the ball home, 1-1.

Dean Morgan is booked for Wycombe on the hour mark for time wasting, after a Vale attack is ruled offside, he put the ball out. Dodd shoots wide in the 63rd minute after Myrie Williams makes a run into the box. Vale take the lead on 66 minutes, Rob Taylor sets Pope up for goal number 14 of the season, 2-1. Joel Grant leaves the field for Wycombe and Matt McClure comes on in the 69th minute, then Foster gets a yellow for fouling Myrie Williams. That man Myrie Williams causes Wycombe a world of problems in the 73rd minute, forcing a corner. Pope gets another chance a minute later after Shuker gets more into the game, it goes wide, but Vale are commanding now. Vale give Ryan Lloyd a run out in the 77th minute, he comes on for Myrie Williams who isn’t happy about being subbed, but until the second half he has been strangely quieter than normal. Scowen has a shot for Wycombe, after a long run he only has the strength to hoof it at the keeper on 79 minutes. The young Kingsley James replaces Shuker on 80 minutes, a minute later Vincent gets booked after being disposed, he grabs at a Wycombe player unnecessarily. Scowen goes off on 83 minutes for Wycombe as they bring Morias on, meaning Ainsworth will not be coming on. Only just on the pitch, Kingsley James does well on 86 minutes and sets Pope up for his second goal of the game, great header, 3-1. A clever free kick from Pope in the last minute nearly sets Vincent up. Four minutes of stoppage time give as Vincent makes it 4 after the keeper fails to hold the ball, 4-1. Vale keep pushing but it stays 4-1 at full time.

Chris Neal is the vice chairman’s’ Man of the match.
