Local lads and Port Vale fans - All The Young, blast out over the terraces as we take our place in the press box. Vale make the same change to the starting X1 after Saturdays 1-0 win at Bradford, Ryan Burge is in for Chris Shuker, who again takes his place on the bench. The Daggers kick off in light blue towards the home fans in the Bycars end on this cold October night; they have brought less than 100 fans up from Essex to see this match (43 we later find out). They get the first shot on 2 minutes, but it spoons and goes wide. A dubious freekick is given Dagenham’s way on 6 minutes, but Bingham curls it straight at the keeper. Dodds has a half chance straight after but puts it wide. Vale get a corner but it’s cleared and Vale are in trouble as nobody is back, only a bad touch from Williams sees Neal clear it, but he clips the keeper with a late challenge, and gets a yellow card from referee Harrington. The Vale fans not happy he isn’t sent off. Myrie Williams has a shot saved n 15 minutes, Clayton McDonald surged forward and got taken out by a Dagenham player and the ball got to Williams, first shot on target for Vale, Clayton gets treatment and returns to the field.

Not a very inspiring start by either team in the first 20 minutes, very scrappy from the visitors that makes Vale struggle to make an opening. Vincent has a good run but it gets away from him after a defender intercepts. Myrie Williams does similar on the opposite wing not long after (26 minutes). After a promising Dodds 1-2 with Loft, Louis hits it out for a D&G goal kick. Great work from Myrie Williams sees another Vale corner in the 33rd minute, but hand ball from Pope stops Vale getting a shot from the set piece. The Daggers keeper does a bit of show boating to clear his lines by heading the ball out in the 34th minute. Myrie Willams again has a brilliant chance to get Vale ahead, but keeper Lewington gets it away and we have another Vale corner. Vale look a lot brighter around the 40 minute mark, still no goal though. On 41 minutes, Dodds played in Vincent and once more Lewington saves. On half time, we are given another 3 minutes to play, a cross from Loft meets the head of Pope but the dominant Lewington won’t budge and saves the day again. Pope has one last go before going in for the break and you’ve guessed it – Lewington saves and concedes a corner, the resulting play sees Myrie Williams hit the side netting.

At half time it’s: Port Vale 0 Dagenham and Redbridge 0.

Vale start the second half and a couple of breaks are fruitless, looking at all the predictions above, all saying Vale will win which means we need a goal. Dodds does well on 48 minutes and gets a corner which Lewington punches clear. Two minutes later after Vincent latches onto a long ball, he sets up Myrie Williams but the ball eludes him. A corner follows but no break yet. Popey then gains another Vale corner; Lewington hits it to Duffy who can’t keep it down. A mistake from Boom Boom John McCombe on 53 minutes nearly lets D&G in but luckily for Vale the visitors don’t capitalise. Morsy and Myrie Williams link up well to gain Vale another corner, but D&G get a free kick from this as the referee sees something as the ball comes into the area

Shuker replaces Burge on 59 minutes as Adams thinks his team need something else to get ahead in this match. We enter the final third of the match with Vale on the attack but Pope is judged as offside by the assistant referee, the home fans show there distain to this as we all think he was ok. A handball from Wilkinson on 62 minutes pushes Vale forward again with a free kick in the Daggers half, the ball goes astray and the Daggers can breathe again. D&G take off Josh Scott and bring on Danny Green (64 minutes). Another seemingly good run from Vale (Ashley Vincent) is given as offside, the fans are angry now. Louis Dodds goes off for Port Vale to be replaced by Ben Williamson (66 minutes).Vale are not giving up easily, and show a lot of grit and get a free kick on 68 minutes, Shuker hits it in the box, the ball somehow won’t sit for McDonald who goes down and the ball is put safe, still 0-0.

Wiliamson gets a good chance on 70 minutes, can’t get the shot on target though. But the deadlock is broken on 71 minutes as a long range shot from Howell goes through Chris Neal’s legs, Port Vale 0, Dagenham and Redbridge 1 against the run of play. In the 72nd minute Dagenham nearly went two up but the shot was blazed wildy over. Corner on 74 minutes was bobbling for Vale and got to Myrie Williams, who gets a much deserved equaliser 1-1. Local boy Adam Yates comes on for Duffy from the kick off. The visitors make another change on 75 minutes Bingham goes off for D&G and Gayle comes on. Dagenham get into the match a bit as we reach the last 10 minutes, will this stay a draw? Vale would go top with a win if Gillingham lose, but it’s not looking like their day. Shuker is unable to put the ball through on 86 minutes as Vale break, seems to have had all the time in the world to do so but can only find a D&G defender.  On 90 minutes, a further 4 are given. Morsy gains Vale a free kick as Vale press  but they can’t seem to get through as the defence mop up the home teams advances. It ends 1-1, Vales second draw of the campaign (both at home). None of our predictions were right either tonight.

Not the best Vale performance tonight, but the visitors were still second best and were let in to the match thanks to Chris Neal’s blunder.

John McCombe is the vice chairman’s’ Man of the match.
