Local lad Sam Johnson is Port Vale's hero as The Valiants march on in Johnsons Paint Trophy.

Newcastle under Lyme lad Sam Johnson was the suprise hero on his debut, as Port Vale beat Walsall away in the Johnsons Paint Trophy.Johnson, Sam scored the winning penalty after the game was drawn 2-2 on 90  minutes. Vale came from 0-2 behind to level with Ryan Burge opening his PVFC account and Tom Pope getting his 12th of the season.

But it's the the nerve wracking penaly shoot out that will be remembered by the travelling 943 Vale fans, The Valiants winning 6-5 after all 22 men on the field took turns from the spot. Johnson kept his cool after the saddlers keeper Darlow missed his and slotted the ball home (the first competitive penalty he had ever taken).

Port Vale are now through to the Area quarter final, the draw takes place this Saturday (October 13th) on Sky 1's Soccer AM.
