The Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise (The Prince’s Initiative), the charity dedicated to supporting business creation by over 50s, has teamed up with local tableware business, Dudson Ltd, to deliver a free self-employment course to unemployed over 50s in Stoke-on-Trent.

With support from Dudson Ltd, a respected Stoke-on-Trent company who have offered their head office as a venue, the charity is bringing the ‘Preparing to Run Your Own Business’ course, to Stoke-on-Trent this month in a bid to tackle unemployment in the city and offer over 50s support in turning their business dream into a reality.

Nick Bunting, The Prince’s Initiative CEO, added:  “With almost 54,000 people over the age of 50 who are economically inactive in Stoke-on-Trent, expanding the ‘Preparing to Run Your Own Business’ course to the city will bring us one step closer to our ambition of supporting all entrepreneurs over the age of 50 start their own businesses.

Ervin Davis, Dudson Strategic Support Director, said: “We are thrilled to be supporting The Prince’s Initiative’s course.  New business creation and skills development are integral to increasing the economic prosperity of Stoke-on-Trent .”

The Stoke-on-Trent course takes people over the age of 50 through the challenging process of preparing to run their own business and will cover areas such as, researching a business idea, planning finances and how to market and sell a product or service.

Over 80% of the entrepreneurs that the charity supports go on to start their own businesses.
