Steel frame completed at new bus station!

We went along this morning to the unveiling of the completed steelframe section of the new bus Station due for completion later this year, with a view to being opened to the public early next year.

The project is the first phase of the Realis Estates £350million regional shopping centre City Sentral and will give the  City Centre a welcomed facelift

Council leader, Councillor Mohammed Pervez said: “Work on the construction of the state of the art new City Centre bus station is well underway and will be completed by the end of the year and opened early next year. It is wonderful to see the steelwork in place, this is a landmark development to be proud of.”

The unusual curved design of the development was the vision of the international award-winning architect Grimshaw, designers of the Eden Project in Cornwall and the International Terminal at London Waterloo station.

Councillor Ruth Rosenau, cabinet member for Regeneration, Planning and Transportation said: “This station will provide purpose built new facilities for passengers in the heart of the city, creating a great impression for those visiting the area.
“It is an exciting development with a striking and unique design.” 
 
Jerry Daly, Project Manager, VINCI Construction UK, Building Division North said: “We are extremely pleased with the completion of the steel frame. The project is progressing well and once completed, the new and iconic bus facility will create an important gateway into the city centre of Stoke-on-Trent.”

The bus station includes 22 bus bays, much improved passenger waiting areas, a refreshment kiosk, toilets and the striking curved roof creating an impressive new gateway into the city centre.
