PREVIEW – Port Vale v Swindon Town

In-form Robins the visitors to Vale Park this weekend

Vale take on Swindon Town tomorrow afternoon in a good run of form, but they will have to be at their best against a side with the second best away record in League Two this season.

Something will have to give somewhere and Vale will need to be on their guard and remain fully concentrated against a side currently sitting in seventh spot in the table.

Only Accrington Stanley have earned more points on their travels with 16, as opposed to the Robins’ 15 points , but nobody has conceded less goals on their travels than David Flitcroft’s side.

Neil Aspin isn’t too concerned about Saturday’s opponents though. His players will have been briefed about stand-out players who may cause some damage, but the Vale boss is more concerned about how his own players fare this weekend.

He was dealt a blow when on loan midfielder Ben Whitfield was ruled out with an injury, but he has already identified the player who will take his place against Swindon, though he was remaining tight-lipped about who that was when he faced the local press yesterday.

The manager has several options and said he felt there were players who had impressed him enough in this week’s two reserve games to be able to stake a claim for a place in the side.

After three successive victories, the Vale players could perhaps be excused in some quarters should they begin to get a little complacent, but Aspin and his staff will make sure that will not happen.

They have made sure everybody remains grounded and understands that the hard work has hardly begun – there is a long, long way to go before they have proven anything.

The emphasis will again be on hard work and the manager will make sure they all know that he will be demanding nothing less than one hundred percent effort from each and every one of them.

They will be going into the game with no fear, however, especially after their win at Exeter last weekend – a result that made everybody else in League Two sit up and notice.
