Top Concerts Coming To The New Vic

Jazz legend Chris Barber, a must-see for music lovers and Streisand fans everywhere, Liza Pulman, and world-renowned pianist extraordinaire Rick Wakemanare all on the stellar one-night concerts bill at the New Vic this month.

Celebrating 70 years as a band leader, Chris Barber visits the New Vic for one night only on Friday 26 April to mark the anniversary in style as part of a Europe-wide concert tour. Inspired by the ‘King Oliver Creole Jazz Band’, Barber formed his first band in 1949 aged just 19 and has since gone on to become not only one of Europe’s most successful and influential bandleaders, but a bona fide jazz legend. With a ten-piece band, featuring a seven-strong front line, the night will include numbers such as Bourbon Street Parade, Jubilee Stomp, Petite Fleur, Ice Cream, When the Saints Go Marching In and more.

On Saturday 27 April, Liza Pulman pays homage to Barbara Streisand in Liza Pulman Sings Streisand. Blending history, warmth and humour, this critically-lauded five-star triumph heads to the New Vic direct from a sell-out run at London’s The Other Palace. Liza’s easy wit, flawless vocals and compelling storytelling will take your breath away with hits including Evergreen, People, New York State of Mind, The Way He Makes Me Feel, Don’t Rain on My Parade, The Way We Were, Second Hand Rose and You Don’t Bring Flowers.

Then on Thursday 9 May the one and only Rick Wakeman visits the theatre-in-the-round as part of his 2019 Piano Odyssey tour. Back in North Staffordshire by popular demand, professional musician, keyboard player, songwriter, broadcaster and raconteur Wakeman will present an evening of superb musicianship with a selection of music from his own albums and more, all interspersed with insightful anecdotes and humour aplenty.
