Stationary Vintage Engine and Classic Vehicle Rally at Etruria
On Saturday 15th September there will be a display of Vintage Stationary Engines and on Sunday 16th September a display of over 80 Classic Cars and Commercial Vehicles at the Etruria Industrial Museum between 10.30am and 5.00pm.
During the weekend the Gardner Engine Forum is holding a rally celebrating the 150th anniversary of the formation of L Gardner and Sons, Hulme, Manchester. From around 1895 to the mid 1990s they made diesel engines for stationary, marine, road and rail vehicles. Visitors will be able to see around 20 narrow boats, 10 road vehicles and 12 stationary engines, many working, and talk to the engineers.
Shirley’s 1857 Etruscan Bone & Flint Mill driven by an 1820s beam engine will be in steam and operating from 12.30pm to 16.30pm starting on the hour. Museum, gift shop and toilets in the Visitor Centre. Art and hands on pottery in the canal warehouse, artist blacksmith demonstrations in the forge and historic canal boat and traditional crafts. In support of Heritage Open Days entrance to the museum, mill, field and warehouse is free. Donations welcome. For visitors wanting a guided tour of the mill the charge is £6.00 per adult, young people under 16 free when with a paying adult.
Spend an interesting and informative afternoon at an attractive canal side location in the heart of Stoke-on-Trent. Limited access to the mill for those with mobility difficulties.
