6TR’s Curtain Call show were privileged to have been invited to go and see April De Angelis’ Play House Creatures at the New Vic Theatre directed by Zoe Waterman.
The story highlights the impact of Charles II reopening the Playhouses and allowing, for the very first time, woman to take to the stage.
This historically based story resonates so accurately even in 2018. This production made us feel extremely jealous of the talents of an incredible Playwright, a brave and vivacious Director and the unbelievably awesome acting ability of the cast, in particular Polly Lister and Anna Kirke who made us laugh and cry in equal measure throughout the production. The plight of Mrs Betterton is one any woman can relate and was a real emotional theme throughout whilst the plucky and very lucky Nell was played with true passion and likeability by Hannah Edwards.
It is a tale of remarkable friendships forged whilst suffering the trials and tribulations of hungry ambitions and fierce rivalries.
It is a gem of a production and a must see. Another triumph for the New Vic Theatre.
Playhouse Creatures is on until Saturday 24th February and tickets can be purchased from http://www.newvictheatre.org.uk/productions/playhouse-creatures/
