PREVIEW – Vale v Coventry

Preview: Port Vale v Coventry City

Vale take on high-flying Coventry City on Boxing Day afternoon at Vale Park and they go into the game with no fears, given their recent run of form.

With seven points from their last three games, two of them away from home, Neil Aspin’s men will be confident of getting a positive result in front of their home crowd.

The Sky Blues will bring a large following down the M6 with them, which should help make for a superb atmosphere, which in turn should get Vale in the mood for what is another big game.

Ideally Vale could do with all three points, especially given that their next two fixtures see leaders Luton Town visit Vale Park at the weekend, before Vale travel to Meadow Lane to face end placed Notts County.

Vale boss Neil Aspin is obviously expecting another tough game against Mark Robins’ men and he doesn’t hide from the fact.

Aspin said: “I think all the games are difficult and you wouldn’t expect me to say anything other than that.

“Coventry are a team that are doing well and they’re probably one of the fancied teams.

“It’s a big club with history and tradition, and it’s a good game to have on Boxing Day. Hopefully we can put on a good display in front of our home supporters.”

The manager has to decide whether or not to start with Tyron Barnett alongside top scorer Tom Pope, or to use the striker as a substitute as he did in the away games at Yeovil and Colchester.

Defender James Gibbons is still sitting out a four-match suspension so he won’t be available for selection and the manager is keeping his fingers crossed fellow defender Tom Anderson has recovered sufficiently from his illness.
