Glovers Next Up At Vale Park

Vale must put all thoughts of climbing away from the bottom three in the League Two table aside as they turn to FA Cup action this weekend.

Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Yeovil Town could well be a pivotal fixture in the season for Port Vale, arguably the biggest game of their season so far.

A victory tomorrow afternoon, coupled with a favourable draw in the next round would in theory help on two counts.

A big match in the round three, in other words a game against of the Premier League ‘big’ boys’, could generate a useful lump of cash.

That money could well strengthen Neil Apsin’s hand considerably when attempting to tempt new players to the club.

Furthermore, should any of those players not be already cup-tied, the prospect of a possible run in the competition could be another attraction.

If the unthinkable happens and it is Yeovil who go through, then the old cliché about concentrating on the league will be in full force as we try to pretend we are not bothered about the FA Cup.

Are we all keeping our fingers crossed that the lads do the business out there on the pitch on Saturday afternoon? Dead right we are, that goes without saying.

We are all hoping we can progress to the next stage of the competition, but we also know we can expect a really difficult game.

Hopes of a big game against one of the Premier League’s top sides are as rife in Somerset as they are here in North Staffordshire, make no mistake about that.

Glovers’ boss Darren Way will have his players fired up for this one, just as Neil Aspin will have made sure his players are ready and well prepared for what could be a massive game.
