At 6pm on Tuesday 3 October, a man claiming to be a British sign language interpreter arrived unannounced at a deaf man’s house in Porthill and insisted on taking him to a false hospital appointment. He wasn’t harmed in the incident and once they got to hospital the man walked off.
In another incident, at 11am on Saturday (4 Nov), two men called at a house in Hanley asking if there were any deaf people who were living in the area. They left when the householder said that she did not know of any. One of the men is described as white, aged 40-50-years-old, of a large build and wearing a Crombie coat. The second man is described as 5ft 10, of medium build and wearing a suit.
