Vale hoping to bring something back from Rodney Parade
Vale return to League Two action this evening when they take on Newport County at Rodney Parade, looking to continue their impressive form since Neil Aspin took charge.
Five wins in seven games since the former Vale defender took over as manager saw Aspin in the running for Manager of the Month for October.
He just missed out on that, but there was better news for striker Tom Pope who deservedly picked up the Player of the Month award.
The confidence gained over the past few weeks mean that the Vale go into the game against Newport full of confidence and see no reason why they can’t come away with a positive result.
The home side sit a very respectable eighth in the table, but their form has dipped recently and they have failed to win in their last three games.
Vale managed to put the disappointment of a home defeat to Swindon in t heir last league fixture to bed with a superb FA Cup victory over League One outfit Oxford United.
They followed that up with a 4-2 home win against near neighbours Crewe Alexandra in midweek and go into tonight’s fixture in high spirits.
Aspin made seven changes in all for the match against Crewe and is likely to revert to a very similar line-up to the one that started against Oxford.
Ryan Boot will retain his lace in goal – a huge vote of confidence from the manager as it means Vale will no longer be able to bring in an emergency loan ‘keeper.
There will also be a return to the Vale attack for Pope, despite the performance from Anton Forrester in midweek on his return from injury.
The question is, has latest Vale acquisition Chris Regis, who joined the club earlier in the week and scored just minutes into his debut done enough to keep his place, or will he have to make do with a place on the bench?
A match report from the Newport County versus Port Vale game will appear here on 6 Towns Radio website shortly after the final whistle.
