Stoke City Travel With Squad Of 34 Players To Uhrencup Switzerland
Stoke City FC have announced their squad to travel to Switzerland for a pre season training camp/ tournament. The squad consists of 34 players, including 9 from the academy squad, who will take part in three fixtures in the Uhrencup Switzerland.
The first fixture sees the Potters take on Neuchatel Xamax on Monday Evening in the tournament.
Stoke boss Mark Hughes has given opportunities the academy squad who’s numbers include U18 Player of the Year Tom Edwards, new recruit Joe Bursik, who was part of the successful England squad that reached the Final of the UEFA U17 European Championships in Croatia. Stoke’s U23 skipper Lewis Banks, Harry Souttar, Ryan Sweeney, Oliver Shenton, Dan Jarvis, Dom Telford and the player that has just had his transfer fee of £1.5 million settled by transfer tribunal Tyrese Campbell.
New signings Darren Fletcher and Josh Tyron link up with their new team mates for competitive action for the first time.
We’d imagine that Xherdan Shaqiri will be receive a heroes welcome and boost attendances of the games as he returns to the country he plays for on an international stage. We also guess that Hughes will hope to see his signing from the January transfer window Saido Berahino get on the score sheet a few times to give him a confidence boost going into the new 2017-18 season.

The Uhrencup was first held in 1962, founded by representatives of Grenchen’s watchmaking industry, to celebrate the inauguration of the new grandstand at the local Brühl stadium. Due to the tournament’s success it was repeated the following year and, thanks to the sponsoring from the local watch industry, it continues to be held annually (with the exception of 1967, 1974 and 2012).
Teams entered into the tournament in 2017 include Young Boys, Neuchatel Xamax and Benfica.
The Potters face Young Boys on Wednesday 12th July, with Benfica playing Xamax on Thursday 13th July and Young Boys on Friday 15th. July
