Jonny Wilkes And Christian Patterson Return For 3D Panto

The Regent Theatre has announced that returning favourites Jonny Wilkes and Christian Patterson will team up once more to star in this year’s spectacular family pantomime Aladdin, opening Friday 15 December – Sunday 7 January 2018.

Jonny will star as Aladdin and Christian as his mother Widow Twankey, bringing with them the laugh-out-loud comedy Stoke audiences have come to expect from the region’s favourite funny men.

Baddeley Green born showman Jonny Wilkes will make his 12th Regent panto appearance as the hero Aladdin. No stranger to the stage, Jonny has enjoyed a varied stage career including lead roles in Chicago, The Rocky Horror Show, Guys and Dolls and Grease, and held hosting duties on You’ve Been Framed and Love on a Saturday Night on television.

Joining him as Widow Twankey, Christian Patterson stars alongside Jonny for the 8th time in the stage partnership that delights Stoke audiences year after year. Trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Christian has held roles in The Woman in Black, Journey’s End and Matilda, and is currently appearing in My Country; a work in progress at the National Theatre.

Audiences will follow Aladdin, and his mother Widow Twankey, on a spectacular adventure featuring a wish-granting genie, an evil sorcerer and a lamp-full of laughs and, for the first time in a Regent panto, a spectacular 3D sequence which will send audiences flying over Old Peking and beyond on a magical flying carpet ride.

Aladdin will be produced by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s biggest pantomime producer in a brand new partnership with Regent Theatre operators, ATG. Led by Nick Thomas and Michael Harrison, Qdos Entertainment is the world’s biggest pantomime producer with over 35 years’ experience in staging over 670 top-drawer pantomimes to its credit. Qdos is renowned for producing high-quality festive productions which are both contemporary and true to the traditions of pantomime and bring a host of star names and creative collaborators to its productions staged across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland each Christmas.

Michael Harrison, managing director of Qdos Entertainment’s pantomime division said: “We know just how well-loved Jonny and Christian are in Stoke, so it makes perfect sense to invite them back to star in the Regent pantomime, our first time working with them. Audiences will be in for a treat as they bring their hilarious comedy and plenty of surprises to the production full of music, dance, laughter and a lamp-full of audience participation.”

Andrew Nicklin, General Manager at The Regent Theatre said: “We are delighted to welcome back Jonny and Christian for The Regent’s 2017 Panto, Aladdin. It will be a spectacular production with lots of comedy and amazing surprises. We are also excited to work with world-renowned panto producers Qdos, as they bring their first class production to The Regent Stage. You won’t want to miss this festive treat!”
