WWE presents Money in the Bank tonight live from Las Vegas in what is set to be one of the most anticipated events in recent memory. Not only does tonight boast what could be the greatest Money in the Bank ladder match of all time as well as a World Heavyweight Championship match that has been two years in the making between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins and a match that many fans thought they would never see as AJ Styles takes on John Cena.
As ever The Brass Ring team are on hand to once again share their predictions and today’s panel includes Phillipa Hopwood, Andrew Parker, Callum McKay, Vickie Hopwood, Kevin Sanders, Chris Rossington, Daniel Standring and Charlene Stewart.
Kick off show – Goldust and R-Truth vs Tyler Breeze and Fandango
Phillipa, Vickie, Charlene – Tyler Breeze and Fandango
Andrew, Dan, Kevin – R-Truth and Goldust
Thoughts by Vickie – One of the filler matches on the card and only recently added to the kick off show, both of these teams are recently united but it would seem that Breezdango is fairing much better than their rivals, by picking up singles victories over both members of The Golden Truth in recent weeks.
However, with the crowd is getting more and more behind The Golden Truth’s comedy gimmick and it does beg the question, ‘is Money in the Bank set up for a big Golden Truth win?’ Or will Breezdango continue to gain momentum towards becoming credible members WWE’s now up and coming tag team division?
Kick off show – The Lucha Dragons vs The Dudley Boys
Vickie, Charlene, Dan, Kevin – The Dudley Boys
Phillipa, Andrew – The Lucha Dragons
Thoughts by Kevin – Whilst it would be nice to see the younger guys getting a big win here, unfortunately I think we will see a victory for the veterans instead. The Dudleys have lost a fair bit of steam and could do with a period of dominance to get it back and due to Kalisto’s fantastic athletics, the Lucha Dragons are always popular. No fairy tale win for the Dragons here in my estimation.
Apollo Crews vs Sheamus
Phillipa, Vickie, Charlene, Dan, Andrew, Chris – Apollo Crews
Kevin – Sheamus
Thoughts by Dan – This feud is interesting to me, people hate ‘The Great White’ and are not sure about Apollo yet since his main roster debut was fairly recent. So WWE logic sees these two become rivals as WWE continues to play on the New Era vs Old Era angle. I personal like Sheamus – big and bad and you know he hits hard but i think WWE screwed him over to many times for us to get behind him anymore. Whereas Apollo could be set for a big push after it has been revealed how much the company really believes in him.
Natalya and Becky Lynch vs Charlotte and Dana Brooke
Phillipa, Andrew, Vickie – Charlotte and Dana Brooke
Chris, Dan, Kevin – Natalya and Becky Lynch
Thoughts by Phillipa – This match has been built up for quite a while but it still doesn’t make any sense to me since this could have easily been a Women’s Championship defence between four equally talented women rather than a tag team match that has nothing riding on it. The match literally has no business being on a pay-per-view card and it is pretty shocking that WWE are allowing it to go ahead. I think Charlotte and Dana need to get some wins under their belt as a team to gain some momentum so I feel like they are the obvious choice.
Dolph Ziggler vs Baron Corbin
Phillipa, Dan – Dolph Ziggler
Andrew, Chris, Vickie, Kevin – Baron Corbin
Thoughts by Andrew – OK, you got me, I’ll hold my hands up and admit it. I’m a Baron Corbin mark. From his first outing as the “Lone Wolf” persona, he had me sold. He’s got a presence about him that simply can’t be taught and now that his ring work has caught up with his style, I’m invested in him and his future 100%. He has future champion written all over him. Which is why he simply must defeat Dolph Ziggler and hopefully end this feud once and for all. I mean, what’s up with the Ziggler curse, in that the moment you lock up with Ziggler you’re forced to fight him repeatedly for months upon months? Hopefully The Baron can break free of this spell and move on to bigger and better things.
Rusev v Titus O’Neil – United States Championship
Phillipa, Vickie, Andrew, Callum, Chris, Vickie, Dan, Kevin – Rusev
Thoughts by Callum – With Titus O’Neil just coming back from suspension it seems clear that he has something to prove to Vince McMahon in this match. For that reason I expect this to be a really decent showing. With Titus being built to look strong recently and Rusev still seeming very dominant this is sure to be a true test of strength between the two men. I can see Rusev coming out on top in this match but not by way of making Titus look weak. There is potential in this feud to continue for a bit longer with Titus potentially taking the strap at the end but for this one I can see Rusev going over!
The New Day vs The Vaudevillians vs The Club vs Enzo and Cass
Phillipa – Enzo and Cass
Chris, Dan, Kevin – The Club
Andrew, Vickie – The New Day
Thoughts by Andrew – Looking at the match in itself, I had initially gone with The Club. They had the most to gain by holding those belts, by being a legitimate threat to anyone going up against AJ Styles. Not to mention that the New Day have had a fantastic run with the belts, and brought them back up the pecking order a bit. The only thing, and I mean the only thing, making me pick the New Day overall is the amount of heels I’ve picked to go over, I needed some balance in the show. New Day takes the belts back to unicorn land this show, but next show could be interesting.
Dean Ambrose vs Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn vs Cesaro vs Chris Jericho vs Alberto Del Rio – Money in the Bank contract ladder match.
Phillipa, Dan – Kevin Owens
Vickie, Andrew, Charlene, Chris, Kevin – Dean Ambrose
Thoughts by Dan – The match we are all waiting for, the MITB match and what a match it looks set to be Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Sami Zayn vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho with a title shot at any point on the line, all these men should win in my book but there can only be one and that man has to be Kevin Owens. It is his time, he is stealing the show with his recent promos and his wrestling ability and giving Owens the case would only add to his appeal. Owens adds something extra to the show and him holding a title shot would be a fantastic idea, the good thing that is coming out of this match is Kevin vs Sami again which is something we will never get tired of seeing. The combustible elements in this match should easily make it the match of the night and I personally can not wait.
AJ Styles vs John Cena
Phillipa, Andrew, Vickie, Charlene, Dan, Kevin – AJ Styles
Chris – John Cena
Thoughts by Andrew – The face of WWE vs. the face of pretty much everywhere else. The idea that this match would actually happen, and in a WWE ring, was confined to the imaginations of fantasy bookers until this year, when Styles arrived at the rumble. Styles has certainly proven why he belongs right at the tippy-top of the card and why he’s arguably the best wrestler on the planet at the moment. But he needs that major, and shocking, win. A win over John Cena, the face that runs the place, would do the trick nicely. Styles needs this win too much not to get it.
Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins – WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Phillipa, Chris, Charlene, Vickie, Dan, Kevin – Roman Reigns
Andrew, Seth Rollins
Thoughts by Phillipa – Seth Rollins’ first WWE match since November 2015 and it’s about his former ally and team mate Roman Reigns. After Seth was injured it was Roman that took the title that he never lost and now Rollins is back to extract his revenge and re-claim the title that is still rightfully his. Sadly I don’t think it will work out that easily for Rollins to take it back because he has managed to gain many more enemies than allies. Triple H could be waiting in the wings to attack Rollins if he wins the title or even if he doesn’t, it would be a fantastic swerve to lead into Triple H vs Seth Rollins at SummerSlam in what could be an incredible main event match.
